It is said that when creation did not exist, Mother Kushmanda had created the universe. Maa Kushmanda has eight arms, hence Maa Kushmanda is also famous by the name of Ashtabhuja Devi. Mother Kushmanda has Kamandal, bow, arrow, lotus flower, pot full of nectar, chakra and mace in her hands respectively. So, taking the name of Mata Kushmanda, let us take you towards Shaktipeeth Brajeshwari.

Know what is the history of Shaktipeeth Mata Brajeshwari Devi Temple –

Shaktipeeth Mata Brajeshwari Devi Temple is located in Nagarkot, Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. This temple is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. During the darshan of the famous nine goddesses, the third darshan is of Maa Brajeshwari Devi. This Shaktipeeth is considered to be one of the grand temples of Himachal. This is the family deity of Rajputs, descendants of Raja Pratap Chand who settled in Bhimber state from Kangra. Even today, in many homes the mother is worshiped as the family deity. Mother is also known as Kangrewali Mai.

The history of the establishment of the temple is related to the Mahabharata period. It is said that one day Goddess Durga appeared to the Pandavas in a dream and told them that she was located in Nagarkot village. If Pandavas want to remain safe and always victorious then they will have to build a temple of Mata at that place. The same night the Pandavas built a grand temple in Nagarkot village, which is known as Brajeshwari Devi.

It is believed that the left breast of Mata Sati had fallen at this place among the pieces of Mata’s body. Mata Brajeshwari Devi is present in the form of three Pindis in the sanctum sanctorum.

The first Pindi is Mata Brajeshwari, the second is Bhadrakali and the third is Maa Ekadashi. It is believed that Mother had fought a great war with the demons.

After which the mother had applied butter as an ointment on the injuries that Devi suffered.

Thus to mark this day the pindi of the goddess is covered with butter and a week long celebration is held in the temple on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
