Shimla, September 03: Former Union minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur has slammed the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, holding it responsible for the deteriorating financial condition of the state. Thakur’s remarks came in the wake of reports that about 2 lakh state employees and 1.5 lakh pensioners have not received salaries and pensions on time. He blamed the current government’s economic mismanagement for this.

Launching a scathing attack, Thakur said, “The Congress government has failed for the people of Himachal Pradesh. There is a huge difference between their words and actions. Even though they are adept at making big promises, running a government is not their cup of tea. The Congress party came to power in 2022 by deceiving the gullible people of Himachal, but now when the time has come to govern, they have turned their back on their responsibilities. It is because of their economic mismanagement that the state is in a very bad condition today.”

Thakur highlighted that this is the first time in the history of Himachal Pradesh that such a large number of employees and pensioners have faced delays in receiving their salaries and pensions. “For employees and pensioners, their salary is the only means of meeting their monthly expenses, ranging from household needs and EMIs to medical bills and school fees. The incompetence of the Congress government has led to this unprecedented crisis,” he said.

The BJP leader also accused the Congress of prioritizing the interests of its close allies over the welfare of the public. “The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has become a government of friends, where personal interests are given more priority than public welfare. The last 20 months of Congress rule have been full of anarchy, arrogance and injustice,” Thakur said.

He criticized the Congress government, saying it had taken a loan of Rs 25,000 crore in just 18 months, increasing the state’s debt burden to Rs 95,000 crore. Thakur said that despite heavy borrowings, the government has failed to fulfil its promises and has discontinued several public welfare schemes launched by the previous BJP government.

Thakur also said that even after 20 months of coming to power, the Congress has not fulfilled any of the guarantees made during the election campaign. “Mothers and sisters in Himachal are still waiting to get Rs 1500 per month as promised. Farmers are waiting to get Rs 2 per kg of cow dung and Rs 100 per litre of milk. Youths are still waiting for 5 lakh jobs that were promised. Families are waiting to get 300 units of free electricity that was assured. Instead of addressing these issues, Congress leaders are busy creating new confusions,” he said.
