Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, June 03A review meeting was held on Monday in the capital Shimla under the chairmanship of the Honorable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to prevent the continuous forest fires.

Expressing deep grief over the cases of sudden and terrible fires flaring up in the forests of Himachal Pradesh, CM Sukhu has issued guidelines to all the officers of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department to prevent the cases of sudden and terrible fires flaring up in the forests as well as to take immediate measures and make proper plans to prevent such incidents in the future.

CM Sukhu has requested the local people of Himachal Pradesh that the incidents of fire in the forests of Himachal Pradesh can be controlled with the efforts of the local people along with the joint teams of the Forest Department and the Fire Brigade.

CM Sukhu said that till June 2024, 1318 cases of severe fire have been registered in the forests of Himachal Pradesh.

In all these cases, 2789 hectares of forest land as well as a total of 12718 hectares of land have been damaged, Due to which the Himachal Pradesh government has suffered a total loss of revenue of Rs 4.61 crore.

CM Sukhu said that to prevent the cases of sudden massive fire in the forests of Himachal Pradesh with immediate effect and to protect the precious forest wealth from damage, the Himachal Pradesh government has taken an important decision to form a full battalion of specially trained NDRF jawans to prevent incidents of fire on time.

CM Sukhu said that it is sad that the lives of lakhs of animals have been destroyed in the cases of fierce fire in 374 forest beats of Himachal Pradesh and it has become necessary to strengthen the services of the Forest Department and Fire Department in all 374 forest beats.

CM Sukhu directed the forest department officials in the meeting to plant specific species of plants in the forests of Himachal Pradesh as well as various species of coniferous plants along with other species of plants in different areas of the state. He said that due to plantation of different species, moisture in the forests of Himachal Pradesh will remain balanced and incidents of severe fire can be easily controlled.

CM Sukhu has issued instructions to all the top officials of the Forest Department to properly investigate all the causes of severe fire incidents and contact the government agency to take immediate action accordingly.

In the review meeting of the Forest Department officials, Industry Minister Harshwardhan Chouhan, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary Omkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary Forest Dr. Amandeep Garg, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Forest) Rajiv Kumar and all the senior officials of the Forest Department have registered their presence.
