Shimla, 06 August: The BJP has expressed serious concern over the alleged neglect of Him Care Yojana by the present Congress government in Himachal Pradesh. Highlighting the importance of the scheme, the party emphasized its role in providing comprehensive health coverage to residents not covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP media in-charge Karan Nanda, drawing similarities between the two schemes, said, “While Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the landmark Ayushman Yojana providing security cover up to Rs 5 lakh across the country, the then Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur took a similar initiative with Him Care Yojana in Himachal Pradesh. The scheme was aimed at covering those not covered under Ayushman Bharat, thereby benefiting every resident of Himachal Pradesh,” Nanda said.

Emphasizing on the effectiveness of the scheme, Nanda said, “Him Care Yojana was thoughtfully designed and implemented by Jai Ram Thakur. During the tenure of the BJP government, not a single rupee was withheld from this scheme in government or private hospitals. Lakhs of people availed it and the BJP government received widespread congratulations and blessings for launching such a beneficial initiative.”

The Him Care Yojana, launched on January 1, 2019, is a comprehensive health insurance scheme that provides cashless treatment coverage of Rs 5 lakh for three years to families not covered under Ayushman Bharat. Nanda elaborated on the inclusiveness of the scheme and said that category-1 beneficiaries include BPL families not covered under Ayushman Bharat, registered street vendors, MNREGA workers who have worked for a minimum of 50 days, senior citizens and children living in orphanages. Category 2 includes single women, Anganwadi workers, Asha workers, mid-day meal workers, daily wage earners, part-time workers, contract workers and other workers with more than 40% participation.

Accusing the present Congress government of weakening the scheme, Nanda said, “Ever since the Congress government has come to power in the state, driven by a spirit of vengeance, they have been having trouble with the Him Care scheme because it was launched by Jai Ram Thakur.”

The BJP has called upon the Congress government to prioritise the welfare of the people and ensure the continued success and implementation of the Him Care scheme.
