Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, April 08: The State Tax and Excise Department, while taking action against illegal liquor in Bilaspur, Nurpur, Kangra, Sirmour, Mandi, Una, Chamba and Kullu districts, has recovered 52,440 liters of Lahan. State Tax and Excise Commissioner Yunus said here that the department has formed task force teams and flying squads in all the districts of the state. Let us tell you that 59 teams of the department are working across the state.

Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the task force has so far seized a total of 2,40,438 liters of liquor in different areas of the state. Various teams of the department have ensured strict action against people doing illegal liquor business in the border areas and within the state.

The Commissioner said that action is being taken by coordinating with the nodal officers of neighboring states. On the basis of information received from various sources, the department’s task force is monitoring the border areas and taking action against people involved in the storage of illegal liquor.

Recently, on the basis of this information, the department has recovered 100 boxes of illegally stored country liquor in Chamba district and taken action under the Excise Act, 2011. The South Zone Flying Squad team of the department has seized 1724 liters of liquor in Sirmour district.

Earlier, the team of Central Region Flying Squad, in joint action with the police, during the search in Tarsuh area along with Dhaleti village of Bilaspur district bordering the Punjab state, had installed two distilleries to extract illicit liquor.

The joint team took prompt action and destroyed about 1200 liters of Lahan. The Nurpur team of the department also took joint action with the Punjab Excise team and recovered and destroyed about 2000 liters of Lahan in Dah-kulara village of Indora area. The Excise team of District Kangra, in joint action with the police, has recovered boxes of country liquor kept illegally from a house.

The department has adopted a policy of zero tolerance against illicit liquor. The Excise Commissioner said that in future also such activities will be closely monitored and strictest action will be taken as per the rules.

The Excise Commissioner said that the control room established by the department is working round the clock. He urged all the citizens to immediately share the information on toll free number 18001808062, telephone number 0177-2620426 and WhatsApp number 94183-31426 and controlroomhq@gmail.com as soon as cases of illegal liquor and gifts (freebies) come to their notice, so that any All types of illegal activities can be stopped.
