Most of us are stuck with a pile of chocolate/candy that our kids got from playing candy or treats, or leftovers from what we didn’t have. What are we going to do with all this candy? Are there any healthy sweets we could get? It’s bad enough wanting to eat everything, but
obviously saving it for the kids isn’t healthy. Sweets should ideally be reserved for special occasions and as a well-earned reward; it is not part of the daily diet of .

Are there healthy chocolate/candy?
Not enough. If it contains sugar, it’s unhealthy. What desserts do you know that don’t contain sugar?! Don’t be fooled by the fact that it says “no added sugar” or that nuts make everything tastier.Children don’t need this sugar… ever. However, there are healthy alternatives.

Really bad things to avoid:
Stay away from food colouring. Sweets contain so many additives that they are unhealthy and can negatively affect your child’s short- and long-term development.Examples include colorings like Red 40 or Yellow 5.

Avoid high fructose corn syrup. Fructose must be converted into glucose, glycogen or fat by the liver before it can be used as an energy source. Unlike other carbohydrates found in foods like rice, our body normally breaks it down into glucose, which is an essential source of energy and is easily broken down. High fructose intake has been linked to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, obesity and type 2 diabetes.

What’s left of healthy candy?
Some brands meet more natural needs by avoiding food colouring and high fructose corn syrup.
Here are my favourite healthy treats for kids and adults:

  • Unreal Candy
This company does a great job of developing products that are similar to the typical candies we love like M&Ms and Peanut Butter Cups, but with 40% less sugar and no added sugar artificial sugary substances. Their products are also gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO and
    always delicious.

  • Healthy and Surf Candy
This company focuses more on jelly beans and they are absolutely delicious. They also contain nothing artificial and contain organic ingredients.

  • Enjoy your life
If you have a child with allergies, you may already know this brand. They are one of the few that stand out and have been appearing more and more frequently on supermarket shelves lately. They are free from almost all allergens, including gluten, egg, dairy, soy, tree nuts and sesame. They use great ingredients and are absolutely delicious. You have many options including protein snacks, cookies and chocolate chips.

  • Dark chocolate in general
Dark chocolate in general is also a good choice for healthy desserts. It has many health benefits while being less sugary than alternative sweets. Rich in antioxidants, fiber and minerals, it helps improve cholesterol levels and is said to have beneficial effects on the heart, skin and brain. Some of the best options are: Antidote and Passover. They have a lot of cocoa, less sugar. Pascha also offers keto-friendly options that are sweetened with stevia and sugar-free.

  • Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Sunflower Butter Cups
For less expensive dark chocolate options, head to Trader Joe’s. They have delicious sunflower butter shells with dark chocolate and solid ingredients but less cocoa.

  • Mavuno Harvest Dried Fruit
Dried fruit is always a good idea, as long as it doesn’t have any added sugar. It’s easy to eat a lot at once, but remember that even if it’s just fruit, it’s still high in sugar. Mavuno Harvest is a great brand with a great social mission. In sub-Saharan Africa, small farming cooperatives produce organic fruit that they bring to America.

  • Naked Fruit
ChipsFruit and veggie chips are another great use of fruit that’s growing in popularity in the snack food market. Bare makes apple chips and even carrot chips with no added sugar!

  • Frozen Popsicles
Okay, while it’s not technically a candy per se and can’t be distributed to confectioners, frozen popsicles are another great idea.If you have a juicer, you can make your own at home and add fruits and veggies, freeze them in popsicle moulds, and entertain your kids who will love to eat later. A good alternative you can buy is Good Pop, which has no added sugar. Some ingredients are still a little questionable, like natural flavours, but avoid red flags like food colouring.

  • Conclusion
Whole Foods also includes major brands. You should always be a savvy consumer and read labels to make an informed decision about what to feed your children.Lately, less is more. So be sure to moderate. If you plan to give sweets to your children, it is best to give them in moderation. You have to understand that it’s not a healthy choice, but it’s good to eat once in a while with parental permission or good self-regulation. It might be easier to give them a portion rather than a whole bag and then take it away
