Approval to fill hundreds of posts in Tanda and Shimla Medical Colleges: CM
Shimla, 04 August: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a review meeting of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College Tanda, District Kangra and Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla here. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government will create and strengthen means and resources on a large scale to strengthen the medical colleges of the state. He said that proper deployment of specialist doctors and adequate staff will be ensured in the colleges.
The Chief Minister said that emphasis was laid on strengthening health institutions on the basis of future needs and technology and resource creation. He also directed to complete the necessary process to increase the number of seats in postgraduate subjects in medical colleges. He also directed to identify the deficiencies in all health institutions and ensure their proper solution. He said that for quality medical care, one staff nurse will be deployed on the ratio of six patients.
The Chief Minister, while reviewing the functioning of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College Tanda, said that the waiting period for consultation with doctors in the hospital will be reduced and the consultation period will be increased, for which adequate number of doctors will be deployed. The number of registration counters will also be increased for the registration of patients so that people do not have to wait long for consultation with the doctor. It was told in the meeting that in the year 2023, a total of 6,05,489 patients availed medical facilities in all departments including 72,069 patients in the Department of Medicine, 56,124 in Orthopedics, 25,856 patients in General Surgery in Tanda Medical College.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the construction work of various projects in Tanda College. He said that a 100-bed capacity Center of Excellence in Mental Health is being developed in the college, which will be made functional soon and B.Sc. Nursing classes will also be started.
The Chief Minister also approved the filling of various posts of specialist doctors, paramedical and other categories in the college. While reviewing the Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also directed to create posts of various categories in it and ensure world class health facilities to the people. He said that all decisions related to health institutions should be taken on a broad scale with a view to public welfare. He said that provision of additional budget would be made for the repair of various buildings in the college.
It was told in the meeting that in the year 2023, 8,72,829 patients availed medical facilities in all departments including 1,43,291 patients in the Medicine Department of Indira Gandhi Medical College, 85,161 in the Orthopedics Department, 77,012 patients in the General Surgery Department. Sukhu said that Atal Super Specialty Institute of Medical Sciences Chamiyana is also being continuously strengthened.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Colonel) Dhani Ram Shandil, Agriculture Minister Prof. Chander Kumar, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthi, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, Vice-Chairman State Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania, MLAs Sanjay Ratan, Malendra Rajan and Harish Janartha, Chief Minister’s OSD Gopal Sharma, Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, Chief Minister’s Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, Director Medical Education Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Principals and Medical Superintendents of Tanda and Shimla Medical Colleges and senior officers were present.
