Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered multiple landslides in Himachal Pradesh’s capital, Shimla, leaving several residential buildings under threat and damaging parked vehicles. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more rainfall, authorities have urged residents to remain alert and avoid vulnerable locations.

One of the major landslides occurred in the Bothwell area near Government College, Sanjauli, where a massive volume of rocks, mud, and debris tumbled down the hillside on Saturday. The incident created panic among local residents as several nearby houses came under potential risk.

Soon after the incident, officials from the district administration and other concerned departments reached the site to assess the damage and monitor the stability of the affected area. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation while evaluating the safety of nearby buildings.

Another landslide was reported from Rajhana village in Shimla district, where huge boulders and debris rolled onto the roadside, damaging multiple parked vehicles. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. Debris clearance operations have already been initiated to restore normal movement in the affected area.

The impact of the relentless rainfall was also witnessed in Kinnaur district, where the Sangla Bridge, a crucial link connecting Sangla with Chitkul, collapsed on Friday night after remaining under severe stress due to continuous rain. The bridge collapse is expected to affect local connectivity and transportation in the region.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre has forecast that rainfall activity is likely to continue across several parts of Himachal Pradesh. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Bilaspur, and Sirmaur districts, with heavy to moderate rainfall expected at isolated locations during the day.

The weather department has also cautioned residents about the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, slippery roads, and temporary disruption of essential services. People have been advised to stay away from landslide-prone zones, overflowing streams, and other vulnerable areas until weather conditions improve.

As the monsoon remains active across the state, district authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while urging the public to follow official weather advisories and prioritize safety.
