In a significant boost to railway infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, the Union Railway Ministry has sanctioned Rs 8.02 crore for the redevelopment, restructuring, and beautification of Nurpur Road Railway Station (Jassur). The project is expected to transform the station into a modern transit hub and strengthen connectivity in the region.
The redevelopment initiative will be undertaken under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a flagship programme aimed at upgrading railway stations across India with improved passenger facilities, modern infrastructure, and enhanced commuter experience.
Nurpur Road Station to Get Modern Passenger Facilities
Announcing the approval, Kangra Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Bhardwaj said the redevelopment of Nurpur Road Railway Station has been a long-pending demand. Speaking to mediapersons after chairing a meeting with senior officials of the Jammu Division of Northern Railway at Pathankot Railway Station, Bhardwaj described Nurpur Road as the “gateway to Himachal Pradesh.”
He stated that the station’s development has been consistently raised in Parliament and with the Union Railway Minister to ensure better infrastructure for passengers and tourists visiting the hill state.
According to Bhardwaj, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jammu Vivek Kumar confirmed the financial approval during the meeting, paving the way for the execution of the project in the coming months.
Narrow Gauge Train Services to Resume
In another major announcement, the MP revealed that train services on the historic Pathankot–Jogindernagar narrow gauge railway line are also set to improve.
Two trains that were not operating on Fridays will resume daily operations from next week, following assurances from Northern Railway officials. Additionally, another suspended train service on the Jassur–Baijnath section is expected to be restored within the next month.
At present, Northern Railway operates two pairs of trains between Pathankot and Baijnath, along with two pairs each on the Jawalamukhi–Baijnath and Baijnath–Jogindernagar sections.
Boost for Tourism and Regional Connectivity
The restoration of additional train services and the modernisation of Nurpur Road Railway Station are expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, local businesses, and tourists travelling to Himachal Pradesh.
Improved station infrastructure, better passenger amenities, and enhanced rail connectivity are likely to strengthen the region’s tourism potential while offering a more comfortable travel experience for passengers using the historic narrow gauge route.
