Congress Tightens Hold on Shahpur After Winning Nagar Panchayat Leadership Posts

Riding high on its impressive performance in the recently concluded Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections, the Congress party has further consolidated its political influence in Shahpur by securing key leadership positions in the Shahpur Nagar Panchayat.

The latest victory comes as a significant boost for the party, which had already demonstrated strong grassroots support by winning three out of four Zila Parishad seats in the Shahpur Assembly constituency. Political observers see the development as a clear indication of growing public confidence in the Congress leadership, particularly that of local MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania.

The election for the posts of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Shahpur Nagar Panchayat was conducted peacefully. Bavita, elected from Ward No. 3, was chosen as the Chairperson, while Rajeev Patial, representing Ward No. 5, was elected as the Vice-Chairperson.

Congratulating the newly elected office bearers, MLA Kewal Singh Pathania expressed optimism about the future of Shahpur’s urban development. He stated that the people of Shahpur have consistently supported initiatives focused on development, transparency, and public welfare. According to him, the newly formed leadership team is expected to work collectively to address civic concerns and accelerate infrastructure and development projects across the town.

Speaking after the election, Chairperson Bavita thanked residents for placing their trust in her leadership. She emphasized her commitment to ensuring better civic services and sustained development in the Nagar Panchayat area. Vice-Chairperson Rajeev Patial also expressed gratitude to the voters and pledged to work in coordination with local representatives to fulfill the aspirations of the people.

Both leaders acknowledged the developmental work carried out in Shahpur over recent years and assured residents that efforts would continue to enhance public amenities, strengthen local governance, and improve overall quality of life.

With consecutive successes in both rural and urban local body elections, Congress has significantly strengthened its organizational base in Shahpur. The victories are being viewed as a strong endorsement of the party’s local leadership and development-focused agenda, further reinforcing its position in the constituency ahead of future political contests.
