BJP’s PRI Election Sweep Brings Newly Elected Leaders to Prem Kumar Dhumal’s Residence
Samirpur, Himachal Pradesh: In a significant political development following the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections in Himachal Pradesh, several newly elected representatives gathered at Samirpur to seek the blessings and guidance of former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
The visit comes in the wake of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) remarkable performance in the local body elections, where the party secured an overwhelming majority across multiple tiers of rural governance. Political observers view the results as a strong endorsement of the BJP’s grassroots connect and organizational strength in the region.
BJP Registers Dominant Victory in PRI Elections
The PRI election results delivered a major setback to the Congress party. Out of the 19 Zila Parishad (ZP) seats in the district, the BJP won 18 seats, while Congress managed to secure only one seat.
The trend was similarly reflected across the district’s six Block Development Committees (BDCs) and 232 Gram Panchayats, where BJP-backed candidates recorded impressive victories.
The results have further strengthened the BJP’s position in rural Himachal Pradesh and highlighted the party’s influence at the grassroots level.
Newly Elected Representatives Seek Guidance from Dhumal
Among those who met Prem Kumar Dhumal were Jyoti Thakur, Zila Parishad member from Uhl Ward; Sushma Devi, BDC member from Pohanj Ward; Anubala, Pradhan of Bhareda Gram Panchayat; Sumna Devi, Pradhan of Chariyan Di Dhar Gram Panchayat; Omkar Chand, Up-Pradhan of Chariyan Di Dhar; Harnam Chand, Up-Pradhan of Tapre Gram Panchayat; Sachin Rana, Up-Pradhan of Jandadu Gram Panchayat; and Rakesh Kumar, Pradhan of Dimmi Gram Panchayat.
Several supporters accompanied the elected representatives during their visit. Separate delegations led by Rajni Devi, Zila Parishad member from Badhani Ward, and Anita Sharma, Zila Parishad member from Dhamrol, also met the veteran BJP leader.
Dhumal Urges Representatives to Focus on Public Service
Congratulating the newly elected representatives, Prem Kumar Dhumal said that their victory reflects the trust and confidence that people have placed in them. He emphasized that electoral success also brings greater responsibility and urged the representatives to work honestly and diligently for the development of their respective areas.
“The expectations of the public are high, and elected representatives must remain committed to serving the people with dedication and transparency,” Dhumal said while interacting with the winners.
Call to Maximize Benefits of Rural Development Schemes
Highlighting the BJP’s commitment to strengthening local self-governance, Dhumal noted that both the party and the Central Government have consistently focused on rural development and public welfare.
He encouraged Gram Panchayat Pradhans and other PRI representatives to effectively utilize various development schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. According to Dhumal, proper implementation of these initiatives can significantly improve infrastructure, livelihoods, and public services in rural areas.
Political Significance of the Results
The PRI election outcome is being viewed as an important indicator of political sentiment in Himachal Pradesh. The BJP’s near-clean sweep across Zila Parishads, BDCs, and Gram Panchayats demonstrates its strong support base in rural regions, while the Congress faces questions about its performance at the grassroots level.
As newly elected representatives begin their tenure, attention will now shift toward governance, rural development, and the effective implementation of welfare schemes across the state.
