The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has further strengthened its political influence in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district after candidates backed by the party secured a commanding victory in the Zila Parishad elections. The results have dealt another setback to the Congress, which continues to struggle in one of the state’s most politically significant districts.

Although the elections were contested without official party symbols, BJP-supported candidates dominated the polls by winning 25 out of the 36 Zila Parishad seats. In comparison, Congress-backed candidates managed to secure only five seats, while CPM-supported candidates won two seats. Four seats were claimed by Independent candidates.

BJP’s Growing Dominance in Mandi

The election outcome once again underlines the BJP’s strong grassroots presence in Mandi, a district that has increasingly become one of the party’s strongest political bastions in Himachal Pradesh.

BJP-backed candidates emerged victorious across several wards, including Nagwain, Syog, Kataula, Thachi, Lower Karsog, Sarahan, Dehar, Kot Balh, Behal, Kot Gopalpur, Sadhana, Kotli, Sari, Nvahi, Sohar, Batheri, Khilra, Majhothi, Basa, Rod, Baryogi, Churag, Nergharwasada, Savi, and Naun.

Meanwhile, Congress-supported candidates won from Salapar, Lower Rewalsar, Thauna, Tihra, and Mahadev wards. CPM-backed candidates secured victories in Bhadyada and Kufri wards.

Congress Struggles Continue in Mandi

The latest Zila Parishad election results add to a series of recent electoral disappointments for the Congress in Mandi district. Earlier, the party faced a major setback in the Mandi Municipal Corporation elections, where it managed to win only one out of 14 wards despite high-profile campaigning by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh.

Political observers believe the repeated electoral setbacks highlight the challenges Congress faces in rebuilding its support base in the region, especially as the BJP continues to consolidate its organizational strength at the local level.

Trend Reflects BJP’s Strong Performance Since 2022

The Zila Parishad results also mirror the political trend seen during the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. In that election, the BJP won nine of the ten Assembly constituencies in Mandi district, showcasing its overwhelming support among voters.

With the latest local body election victory, the BJP has further reinforced its influence in Mandi, while the Congress is likely to reassess its strategy ahead of upcoming electoral contests in Himachal Pradesh.

What the Results Mean

The decisive outcome of the Mandi Zila Parishad elections is being viewed as a significant indicator of the current political mood in the district. For the BJP, the victory strengthens its grassroots network and local governance presence. For Congress, the results serve as a warning sign as it prepares for future political battles in one of Himachal Pradesh’s most crucial electoral regions.
