The Chief Minister made the announcement while interacting with 21 students from scheduled tribal areas who are beneficiaries of the state’s post-matric scholarship scheme. During the meeting, students shared their educational journeys and experiences, while the Chief Minister encouraged them to take full advantage of the government’s education-focused initiatives.
Affordable Education for Every Student
Addressing the students, CM Sukhu said that financial constraints should never become a barrier to higher education. The state government is committed to supporting students pursuing professional and higher education courses through affordable financial assistance.
Under the Dr YS Parmar Vidyarthi Rhin Yojna, students can access loans of up to ₹20 lakh at a highly subsidized interest rate, helping families manage educational expenses without significant financial burden.
Major Reforms in Himachal’s Education Sector
Highlighting ongoing reforms, the Chief Minister said that the government has taken several steps to improve the quality of education across Himachal Pradesh.
More than 156 government schools have been brought under the CBSE curriculum pattern, ensuring students receive education that aligns with national academic standards. Additionally, schools have expanded academic options by introducing Arts, Science, and Commerce streams, giving students greater flexibility in choosing their career paths.
Himachal Climbs to Sixth Position in Education Rankings
CM Sukhu also pointed out that Himachal Pradesh has shown remarkable progress in educational performance. According to a recent nationwide assessment of education quality, the state has improved its ranking from 13th place to sixth place.
The Chief Minister credited this achievement to the government’s focused efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure, improve teaching standards, and provide better learning opportunities for students across the state.
Other Key Announcements
Apart from education-related initiatives, the Chief Minister highlighted that the state government has increased the legal marriage age for girls from 18 to 21 years, bringing it in line with that of boys.
He also informed that the Scheduled Tribes Garmia Utsav is being celebrated across Himachal Pradesh from May 10 to June 9, promoting cultural participation and community engagement throughout the state.
