US-Iran Tensions Escalate as Tehran Blames Washington’s ‘Excessive Demands’ for Delaying Truce

Amid growing instability in the Middle East, Iran has accused the United States of becoming the biggest hurdle in ongoing truce negotiations, further raising fears of a fresh geopolitical crisis in the region.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Washington’s “excessive demands” are preventing progress in diplomatic talks aimed at restoring regional stability. His remarks came during a phone conversation with António Guterres, according to reports by Al Jazeera.
Araghchi reportedly told the UN chief that the United States has repeatedly weakened diplomatic efforts through what he described as “contradictory positions, broken promises, and military aggression.” Despite the tensions, Tehran has continued to participate in negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire and reducing conflict in the region.
The conversation comes at a time when concerns are growing over the possibility of direct military action. According to reports from CBS News, the administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing contingency plans for potential military strikes against Iran.
Sources familiar with the matter reportedly said that no final decision has been taken yet. However, several officials from the US military and intelligence agencies are believed to have cancelled their Memorial Day weekend plans due to the rapidly evolving situation.
The developments have also impacted Trump’s personal schedule. The US President reportedly decided to remain in Washington instead of attending his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding celebrations with Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson.
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump said that “circumstances pertaining to Government” required him to stay at the White House during what he called an “important period of time” for the United States.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Guterres reportedly stressed the importance of diplomacy and rejected the use of force against the sovereignty of any nation. He called for renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation and restore stability across the region.
The latest developments have once again placed US-Iran relations under global scrutiny, with international observers warning that any military confrontation could have serious consequences for regional peace, oil markets, and global security.
