The famous Rohtang route near Manali has once again become the centre of attraction for tourists as authorities in Himachal Pradesh allowed visitor vehicles to travel further on the snow-covered stretch. The move has sparked a fresh tourism boom in Manali at the beginning of the summer season.

According to the latest orders issued by Kullu District Magistrate Anurag Chander Sharma, tourist vehicles are now permitted to move up to three curves ahead of Rahni Nala on the scenic Manali-Rohtang road. The decision came after a joint inspection by the local administration, police officials and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), who declared the route safe for travel.

Earlier, tourist traffic was allowed only up to Marhi after the route partially reopened on May 4. With the latest relaxation, visitors are now getting closer access to the snow-covered landscapes that make Rohtang one of the most popular tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh.

The reopening has significantly increased tourist arrivals in Manali. Visitors from different parts of India are reaching the hill station to experience the cool weather, fresh snowfall views and massive snow walls standing along the roadside. Hotels, cafes, taxi operators and local businesses are witnessing a sharp rise in activity after a slow winter season.

The Border Roads Organisation has been working continuously to clear snow from both the Manali and Koksar sides. Officials said snow walls between five and 20 feet high are being removed, and only a small stretch remains before the entire Rohtang Pass is fully reopened for traffic.

Located at an altitude of 13,058 feet, Rohtang Pass remains one of the most visited tourist attractions in Himachal Pradesh during the summer months. The breathtaking views of snow-covered mountains and adventure-filled road journeys continue to attract thousands of travellers every year.

However, the sudden tourist rush has also created heavy traffic congestion on the narrow mountain roads. Several tourists and local residents reported long traffic jams between Manali and Rahni Nala due to the increasing number of vehicles heading towards the snow points.

Despite traffic challenges, the reopening of the Rohtang stretch has brought new energy to Himachal Pradesh’s tourism sector, with local businesses hoping for a strong and profitable summer season ahead.
