Campaigning for the upcoming Palampur Municipal Corporation elections gathered pace on Wednesday as Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri led an extensive outreach programme across multiple wards of the town, urging residents to support Congress candidates in the civic polls.

Addressing several public meetings during the day, Agnihotri positioned development and urban infrastructure as the central pillars of the Congress campaign. He said the Congress-led municipal body had delivered visible improvements in civic amenities over the past five years and promised that the momentum of development would continue if the party returned to power.

Speaking to residents and party workers, Agnihotri highlighted key civic projects undertaken in Palampur, including the upgrading of internal roads with paver tiles, improved drainage systems, sanitation drives and enhanced street lighting. According to him, these initiatives have significantly improved connectivity and transformed the town’s overall appearance.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the state government remained committed to strengthening urban infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh and ensuring balanced development in municipal areas. He claimed that coordinated efforts between the state government and local Congress representatives had helped Palampur emerge as one of the better-planned urban centres in the region.

Agnihotri also assured voters that additional projects related to roads, water supply, waste management and beautification would be taken up in the coming years if Congress candidates secured victory in the municipal corporation elections.

During the campaign, the Congress leader launched a sharp attack on the BJP, accusing the opposition party of engaging in “negative politics” instead of presenting constructive alternatives for development. He alleged that while Congress was focused on governance and civic improvements, the BJP was attempting to mislead voters on local development issues.

The campaign trail also saw Agnihotri interacting with traders, local residents and grassroots party workers in different wards of Palampur ahead of the closely watched civic elections. Senior Congress leaders and councillors accompanied him during the outreach programme as the party intensified its efforts to consolidate voter support.

With the municipal elections drawing closer, political activity in Palampur has intensified, with both Congress and BJP expected to focus heavily on local development, civic services and urban infrastructure in their campaigns.
