Himachal Pradesh Weather Update: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Likely From May 11; IMD Issues Alerts
Residents across Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness another intense spell of rain and thunderstorms beginning May 11, as a fresh western disturbance is expected to impact the Western Himalayan region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts may experience heavy rainfall, hailstorms, gusty winds and thunderstorms over the next few days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts may experience heavy rainfall, hailstorms, gusty winds and thunderstorms over the next few days.
The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall across many parts of the state from May 11 to May 15. Higher hill areas are also expected to receive fresh snowfall during this period, bringing a sharp dip in temperatures across the region.
Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued in Himachal Pradesh
The IMD has issued orange and yellow weather alerts for multiple districts between May 12 and May 14 due to the possibility of intense showers and severe weather activity. Isolated areas may witness hailstorms, lightning and strong winds, which could affect normal life and travel in hilly regions.
Officials have advised residents and tourists to remain cautious, especially in landslide-prone and high-altitude areas.
Temperature Likely to Drop Across the State
Weather experts said the fresh rain spell is expected to bring down temperatures significantly. Minimum temperatures may fall by 2°C to 4°C, while maximum temperatures could drop by 3°C to 5°C during the next few days.
Over the past 24 hours, many parts of Himachal Pradesh have already recorded light rainfall along with a noticeable fall in temperatures.
Minimum temperatures across the state dropped by 2°C to 5°C and remained between 5°C and 22°C. Maximum temperatures also declined by 2°C to 8°C, ranging between 14°C and 34°C.
Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala Witness Pleasant Weather
Several popular tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh recorded cooler temperatures due to changing weather conditions.

Una remained the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 34°C, while Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest, recording a minimum temperature of 5.2°C.

With heavy rain and thunderstorms expected over the coming days, tourists planning to visit Himachal Pradesh are advised to check the latest weather updates before travelling. Authorities are also monitoring vulnerable areas for possible disruptions caused by rain, hailstorms and strong winds.
The upcoming weather activity is expected to provide relief from rising temperatures in lower regions, while adding fresh snowfall to higher Himalayan areas.
