According to industry experts, the tourism sector in the region is showing strong signs of recovery, with a steady rise in online booking inquiries, especially for the month of May. Weekends are already experiencing heavy footfall, signaling the beginning of a busy tourist season.
Hira Lal Rana, President of the Himachal Pradesh Travel Agents Association, said that the surge in demand is a positive development for local businesses. “There has been a noticeable jump in bookings, particularly for weekends. This trend is encouraging for the tourism industry,” he noted.
Local hoteliers in Manali are also reporting improved occupancy levels. Budhi Prakash, a hotel owner in the region, shared that although recent global geopolitical tensions briefly impacted tourist movement, the situation has now stabilized. “In the last few days, tourist arrivals have picked up significantly. With rising temperatures in cities, more people are choosing hill stations for relief,” he said.
Adding to this, Anup Thakur, former President of the Manali Hoteliers Association, revealed that hotel occupancy has already crossed 50% and is expected to exceed 90% in the coming days. The pleasant weather and availability of snow at key tourist spots continue to attract visitors.
High-altitude destinations such as Rohtang Pass, Koksar, Sissu, and Shinkula Top remain covered in snow, offering tourists a rare opportunity to enjoy winter-like experiences even during early summer.
Tourism stakeholders have assured that all necessary arrangements are in place to manage the expected surge. Hotels, transport services, and safety measures have been strengthened to ensure a smooth experience for visitors.
With favorable weather conditions and rising travel demand, Kullu-Manali is gearing up for a robust tourist season, bringing much-needed economic relief to local businesses that depend heavily on tourism.
