In a significant achievement that highlights efficiency in public safety services, Himachal Pradesh Police has secured the top position nationwide for the fastest emergency response time under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) for April.
According to the latest rankings released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the hill state recorded an impressive average response time of just 3 minutes and 36 seconds, making it the quickest in the country to respond to emergency calls dialed through the 112 helpline.
Not only this, Himachal Pradesh also demonstrated strong backend efficiency. The average call-taker response time stood at 2 minutes and 1 second, while the dispatcher response time was just 12 seconds, reflecting a well-coordinated and highly responsive emergency system.
Following Himachal Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu Police secured the second position with an average response time of 4 minutes and 36 seconds. Lakshadweep Police ranked third with 5 minutes, while Chandigarh Police stood fourth at 5 minutes and 8 seconds.
Reacting to the achievement, Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Ashok Tewari, congratulated the entire police force for their dedication and commitment. He stated that this milestone sets a new benchmark for emergency response and reinforces public trust in law enforcement services.
The ERSS rankings are part of a nationwide evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, focusing on the efficiency and responsiveness of police forces in handling emergency calls made to the 112 helpline. The system, launched across India in 2018, aims to provide citizens with quick and reliable emergency assistance.
Himachal Pradesh was notably the first state in the country to implement the ERSS system, and its continued top performance reflects sustained improvements in infrastructure, training, and real-time coordination.
Officials believe that such rankings not only recognize excellence but also encourage other states and union territories to enhance their emergency response mechanisms, ultimately strengthening public safety across the nation.
