The State Election Commission has officially announced the much-awaited dates for civic body elections in Rohru Municipal Council and Narkanda Nagar Panchayat, bringing political activity back to these regions. With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect, restricting any new policy decisions or announcements by authorities.
As per the election schedule, voting will take place on May 22, with polling set to begin at 7:00 AM and continue until 3:00 PM. The counting of votes will start soon after polling concludes, and results are expected to be declared the same day.
The nomination process will be conducted over three days — May 5, 6, and 7, followed by scrutiny of applications on May 8. Candidates will have the option to withdraw their nominations until 3:00 PM on May 11, after which the final list of contestants will be published and election symbols will be allotted.
These elections were delayed earlier due to pending finalization of the reservation roster by the administration. With that process now complete, the commission has moved ahead with the announcement.
Notably, the State Election Commission has also indicated that elections for 53 urban local bodies, including four municipal corporations, will be conducted in phases. Additionally, the schedule for Panchayati Raj Institution elections is expected to be released in the coming days, which could further intensify political momentum across Himachal Pradesh.
The upcoming elections are seen as crucial for local governance, development planning, and grassroots political representation in the region. Residents of Rohru and Narkanda are expected to actively participate in shaping their local leadership.
