Himachal Pradesh has been hit by a fresh spell of rain and snowfall, bringing a noticeable chill back to the air just as the state began transitioning into spring. On Friday, several regions including Shimla and Dharamsala witnessed rain showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, signaling a shift in weather conditions across the hills.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this wet spell is expected to continue until April 6, impacting both high-altitude and lower regions of the state. The forecast indicates a mix of rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms in isolated areas over the coming days.

High-altitude areas and adjoining mid-hills are likely to receive light to moderate snowfall, especially on Saturday. Snow activity is expected to remain scattered on April 5 and 6. Meanwhile, residents in low hills and plains should prepare for intermittent light to moderate rainfall during this period.

Popular tourist hotspots such as Manali, Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Solang Valley, and Sissu are expected to witness multiple spells of rain or snowfall. This could enhance the scenic beauty of these destinations but may also disrupt travel plans for visitors.

The weather department has also issued a warning for isolated hailstorms, particularly in districts like Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla on Saturday. Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph are likely across most parts of the state until April 7.

This prolonged wet spell is expected to bring down day temperatures by 4–6°C in several regions, offering temporary relief from rising temperatures but also increasing the chances of weather-related disruptions.

Residents and tourists are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions, especially while traveling in hilly areas prone to sudden weather changes.
