A wave of frustration swept through Shimla as hundreds of pensioners gathered at Chaura Maidan, just steps away from the Himachal Assembly, to raise their voices against long-pending dues.

For many of these elderly citizens, this wasn’t just a protest—it was a fight for dignity. Several pensioners shared that their medical bills have remained unpaid for years, despite battling serious health conditions. The delay, they say, has added financial stress to an already vulnerable stage of life.

Alongside medical reimbursements, protesters also highlighted the non-payment of 13% Dearness Allowance (DA) and pending arrears, which have been delayed for months. For pensioners who rely heavily on fixed incomes, these delays have significantly impacted their daily lives.

As slogans echoed through the protest site, anger wasn’t just about unpaid money—it was also about perceived injustice. Many demonstrators questioned the state government’s priorities, alleging that while officials cite a financial crisis, funds continue to be spent on what they described as “unnecessary appointments” in boards and corporations.

The protest carried a clear warning: if their demands are not addressed soon, the agitation will intensify. Pensioners also hinted that continued neglect could have political consequences, especially with public sentiment already turning sensitive around welfare issues.

This protest is more than a one-day demonstration—it reflects growing unrest among pensioners who feel unheard. As the situation unfolds, all eyes are now on how the government responds to these mounting concerns.
