Himachal Pradesh’s economy is showing strong signs of recovery and momentum, with growth projected at 8.3% in 2025–26, a noticeable jump from last year’s 6.4%. This improvement reflects a steady comeback driven by multiple sectors working together.
While presenting the Economic Survey in the Vidhan Sabha, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted that the state’s economic foundation remains solid, backed by consistent progress in agriculture, industry, and services.
📈 Rising Incomes Signal Strong Growth
One of the biggest highlights is the rise in per capita income, which is expected to reach ₹2,83,626 in 2025–26, marking a growth of 9.8% compared to last year. What’s even more impressive is that this figure is significantly higher than the national average by over ₹64,000.
Over the years, Himachal Pradesh has maintained a steady growth trajectory. From ₹87,721 in 2011–12 to today’s level, income growth reflects long-term economic stability and better opportunities for residents.
💼 Strong GSDP Growth Despite Global Uncertainty
The state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is also on the rise. At constant prices, it is estimated at ₹1,56,681 crore, while at current prices it could reach ₹2.54 lakh crore, growing at 10.1%.
This growth is particularly noteworthy at a time when global economic uncertainties continue to challenge many regions.
🌾 Agriculture Makes a Comeback
After a slower phase last year, the agriculture sector is bouncing back strongly. Growth is expected at 8.3%, compared to just 2.7% previously.
A standout factor is the crops sector, which has seen a remarkable surge of 35% growth over the past few years. This indicates improved productivity, better farming practices, and stronger rural support systems.
🏭 Industrial Sector Remains the Backbone
The industrial sector continues to play a crucial role, contributing nearly 40% to the state’s economy. It is projected to grow at 7.77%, outperforming the national average.
Manufacturing leads the segment, followed by construction and utilities like electricity and water supply. This steady industrial performance is helping maintain economic balance.
🏔️ Tourism Boom Driving Service Sector Growth
Tourism is once again becoming a major growth engine for Himachal Pradesh. The state has witnessed a massive rise in tourist arrivals—from 32 lakh in 2020 to over 3.11 crore in 2025.
This surge clearly reflects how Himachal Pradesh has re-established itself as one of India’s most loved travel destinations after the pandemic slowdown. Hotels, restaurants, and local businesses are all benefiting from this revival.
⚡ Power Sector Strengthens Revenue
The power sector is also contributing significantly to the state’s finances. Revenue from electricity sales has already reached ₹1,668 crore, with more expected by the end of the fiscal year.
With 28 hydropower projects currently operational, the state is set to generate over 2,200 million units of electricity, further strengthening its economic position.
