Residents across Himachal Pradesh may experience unusually hot weather over the next few days as the State Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning for heat wave conditions on May 26 and 27. Several districts, especially in the lower and mid-hill regions, are expected to witness scorching temperatures and warmer-than-normal days.
According to the weather department, districts including Kangra, Solan, Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur are likely to be the most affected. The heat wave warning has been issued for isolated areas where daytime temperatures are expected to rise significantly, making outdoor conditions uncomfortable during peak afternoon hours.
Meteorologists have predicted that minimum temperatures across many parts of the state could increase by 2°C to 5°C, while maximum temperatures may surge by 3°C to 7°C above normal levels. This sudden rise is expected to intensify heat conditions, particularly in plains and lower hill districts.
Una Records Highest Temperature in Himachal Pradesh
Among all regions, Una remained the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 41°C. Other major towns also witnessed rising temperatures, including:
- Shimla – 27.6°C
- Dharamshala – 35.1°C
- Manali – 28.2°C
- Kangra – 36.4°C
- Solan – 34°C
- Mandi – 36°C
- Sundernagar – 36.4°C
- Nahan – 36.9°C
- Bhuntar – 33°C
Meanwhile, Tabo in Lahaul and Spiti recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 3.8°C, highlighting the sharp contrast in weather conditions across the hill state.
Relief Expected After May 28
While dry and hot weather is expected to continue for the next two days, the Meteorological Centre has also predicted light rainfall activity in middle and higher hill regions on May 26. A broader spell of light precipitation is likely across many parts of Himachal Pradesh between May 28 and May 30, which could bring temporary relief from the rising heat.
Over the last 24 hours, some areas witnessed very light rainfall, although weather conditions largely remained dry across the state.
Advisory for Residents
Health experts advise people to avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Elderly citizens, children and people working outdoors are expected to be more vulnerable during the heat wave period.
The sudden spike in temperatures has already started impacting daily life in several districts, with residents experiencing intense afternoon heat much earlier than usual for the season.
