In a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh, international kabaddi player Bhupender Pal Thakur from Mandi has been honoured with the prestigious Himachal Achiever Award 2026. The recognition celebrates not just his achievements on the mat, but also his relentless dedication to the sport.

The award ceremony, held in Shimla, witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries and sports lovers. MLA (Shimla Urban) Harish Janartha personally congratulated Bhupender, applauding his hard work, discipline, and inspiring journey that continues to motivate young athletes across the state.

Bhupender’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Representing India on the international stage twice, he has showcased his talent in tournaments held in Sri Lanka as well as India-Nepal competitions. His performances have consistently reflected determination, strength, and a deep passion for kabaddi.

But his story doesn’t stop at playing. Recently, Bhupender added another feather to his cap by completing his coaching certification from the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS). Now a certified coach, he is all set to guide and mentor the next generation of kabaddi players — giving back to the sport that shaped his life.

His achievements have been recognised beyond the state as well. The National Bhavan Centre honoured him with a national award in New Delhi for his contribution to sports. Earlier, he had also received the prestigious Yuva Shree Award, further cementing his place as one of the promising faces of Indian kabaddi.

From a small town in Mandi to representing the country and now shaping future champions, Bhupender Pal Thakur’s journey is a powerful reminder that dedication and perseverance can turn dreams into reality.
