Shimla: In a significant breakthrough, Shimla police have arrested an alleged major drug supplier near the Indo-Nepal border, dismantling a heroin distribution network operating across parts of the district.
The accused, identified as Vijender Singh (35), a resident of Sundha Bhonda village in Chirgaon, was allegedly acting as a key distributor of heroin (commonly known as ‘chitta’) in the Rohru and Chirgaon regions.
According to police, he sourced the contraband from Punjab and operated a well-organised supply chain.
Initial Seizure Led to Network Bust
Addressing a press conference, Shimla Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek said that on February 2, 2026, district police arrested two Punjab residents — Jashandeep Singh and Dharampreet Singh — from Mehandli in Rohru with 83 grams of heroin.
Following the arrest, investigators analysed bank transactions and digital evidence to trace the supply network.
The probe led to the arrest of three more alleged peddlers:
- Ashish Chauhan (24)
- Naveen Shitta (31)
- Diwan Chand (39)
All three are residents of the Chirgaon region.
Supplier Tracked After Manhunt
Police said further investigation revealed that Jashandeep had been supplying heroin in multiple areas of Shimla district, including Rohru and Chirgaon, where Vijender functioned as a major distributor.
“Vijender is a habitual offender. Three cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, were registered against him in 2018, 2019 and 2022,” the ASP said.
To evade arrest, Vijender allegedly fled to Nepal. A manhunt was launched on February 13, and within 48 hours, a team from Rohru police station — with assistance from Uttarakhand and Nepal police — apprehended him from Banbasa in Uttarakhand, near the India-Nepal border.
NDPS Cases Rising
With Vijender’s arrest, a total of six persons linked to the network have been taken into custody so far. Police said further investigation is underway to identify additional links.
The ASP added that this year alone, district police have arrested 94 accused in 48 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Authorities described the operation as a major step towards curbing the drug menace in the region.
