Himachal Pradesh Weather News : Snowfall, Rain Block 889 Roads Across Himachal; Power Supply Severely Hit
Heavy snowfall and widespread rainfall have disrupted normal life across Himachal Pradesh, with at least 889 roads, including four National Highways, blocked due to snow accumulation and landslides, severely affecting road connectivity in several districts.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti remains the worst-hit, with 292 roads rendered impassable, including key routes NH-03 and NH-505. Shimla reported the second-highest number of closures at 176 roads, followed by Mandi (128), Kullu (99, including NH-305), Chamba (91), and Kinnaur (75, including NH-05).
Additionally, 20 roads were blocked in Sirmaur, 18 in Kangra, five in Hamirpur and three in Una, leading to a near-complete halt of vehicular movement in many remote and hilly areas.
Power Supply Disrupted
The severe weather has also crippled electricity infrastructure, with 3,237 transformers reported out of service, leaving thousands of households without power.
Shimla recorded the highest number of affected transformers at 1,082, followed by Kullu (1,024), Mandi (369), Chamba (200), Lahaul and Spiti (199), Kinnaur (164), Sirmaur (156) and Solan (43).
Heavy Snowfall in Higher Reaches
Over the past 24 hours, higher reaches witnessed intense snowfall while lower and mid-hill areas received heavy rainfall.
As per the Meteorological Department:
- Kothi (Kullu) recorded the highest snowfall at 75 cm
- Koksar – 51 cm
- Gondla – 36 cm
- Kukumseri – 28.3 cm
- Keylong – 15 cm
- Khadrala (Shimla) – 40.6 cm
- Manali – 28 cm
- Kalpa (Kinnaur) – 17.7 cm
Heavy Rainfall Recorded
Several districts also received significant rainfall:
- Bhuntar – 55.4 mm
- Bilaspur – 45.6 mm
- Naina Devi – 44.6 mm
- Kasauli – 44.2 mm
- Sundernagar – 42.4 mm
- Jogindernagar – 40 mm
- Solan – 39.2 mm
- Shimla – 29 mm
- Dharamshala – 23.4 mm
Weather Alert Issued
The Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy snowfall and rainfall on February 1 and 2. Dry weather is expected on January 29, while light snowfall and rain may occur in higher hills on January 30 and 31.
A yellow warning for dense fog and cold wave conditions has also been issued for Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Sirmaur districts.
The administration has advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to snow-bound areas and follow official advisories.
