Police have arrested nine drug peddlers, including residents of Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh, and recovered around 57 grams of chitta (heroin) in multiple cases across Shimla district.

Police have arrested nine drug peddlers, including residents of Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh, and recovered around 57 grams of chitta (heroin) in multiple cases across Shimla district.

In the first case, a woman from Meghalaya and a man from Uttar Pradesh were arrested in Shimla with 50.34 grams of chitta. The accused have been identified as Purnima Lampag (34), a resident of Ri Bhoi district in Meghalaya, and Nityam Dhir (32) from Sector 151, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

In a separate case registered at Kumarsain police station, two persons were arrested with 2.3 grams of chitta. They were identified as Sachin Shyam (34), a resident of Banoga village in Nankhari tehsil, and Aarush Mehta (24) from Noon village in Kumarsain tehsil, both in Shimla district.

In another operation in Kumarsain, police arrested five more accused with 4.7 grams of chitta. The arrested persons are Mushtaq Ali (25) and Mashum Ali (23), both residents of Bhadrash village in Rampur tehsil; Ravinder Kumar (37) and Kishan Kumar (31) from Bahli village in Kumarsain; and Ravinder Kumar (44) from Duttnagar, Rampur.

Police said separate cases have been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward links in the drug supply network.
