BJP state president Rajeev Bindal on Tuesday accused the Congress of misleading the public over the newly launched Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), stating that Himalayan states such as Himachal Pradesh will receive funding in a 90:10 Centre–state ratio, unlike other states where the ratio is 60:40.

Addressing a press conference here, Bindal said the scheme would be highly beneficial for Himachal Pradesh and reflects the Modi government’s commitment to accelerating development in hill states. “The Congress is deliberately creating confusion regarding the funding pattern. The fact is that for Himalayan states, including Himachal Pradesh, the Centre will bear 90 per cent of the cost, while the state’s share is only 10 per cent. In other states, the ratio is 60:40,” he said.

He said the special funding arrangement takes into account the geographical and economic constraints of hilly regions. According to Bindal, the VB-G Ram Ji Yojana would revitalise rural Himachal by providing a 125-day employment guarantee, which would significantly improve livelihoods and the rural economy.

Bindal also criticised the Congress for raising objections over the scheme’s name, saying the party itself had renamed several schemes during its tenures. “The BJP has never opposed name changes. What matters is development and results, not nomenclature. The VB-G Ram Ji scheme is not politically motivated but a visionary initiative aligned with the goal of a developed India by 2047,” he said.

He added that if the state government fails to contribute its 10 per cent share on time, it would expose what he termed the Congress government’s “anti-rural and anti-poor mindset.”
