The Kangra Valley Carnival will be held in Dharamsala from December 24 to 31, featuring drone shows, cultural evenings and performances by top artistes.
The Kangra Valley Carnival will be organised in Dharamsala from December 24 to 31, promising a vibrant celebration of culture, music and innovation aimed at boosting tourism in the region.
Addressing mediapersons, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said the Police Ground in Dharamsala, set against the majestic Dhauladhar ranges, would host eight grand cultural evenings blending Himachal’s rich traditions with modern spectacles.
The carnival, now established as a calendar event, will commence on December 24 with a colourful procession starting from the Deputy Commissioner’s office and culminating at the venue. Local artistes dressed in traditional attire will lead the march, reflecting the cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
One of the major attractions this year will be a spectacular drone show illuminating the Himalayan sky, along with fireworks, hot air balloon displays, street theatre and a host of sports activities, including cricket and football matches, marathons and other events.
Music enthusiasts can look forward to performances by renowned artistes from across the country. Kerala-based multi-genre band Thaikkudam Bridge will bring its signature sound to the stage, while Bollywood singer Ankit Tiwari, Sufi singer Kanwar Grewal, Punjabi star Babbu Maan and several popular Himachali artistes will perform on different evenings. December 28 will be dedicated exclusively to Himachali artistes, highlighting the state’s cultural identity.
The carnival will also feature a Millets Festival and a craft market, providing a platform for local artisans, self-help groups, women and youth to showcase and sell their products. To extend its reach beyond the region, all events will be live-streamed on social media platforms.
Former Dharamsala Mayor Devinder Jaggi said the Kangra Valley Carnival had received official status with the support of the Chief Minister and was expected to significantly enhance tourism prospects in the district. Organised under the guidance of the state government and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the carnival aims to position Kangra as a leading tourism destination in Himachal Pradesh.
