“LoP Jai Ram Thakur Slams Govt’s Three-Year Event, Calls It a Display of Frustration, Not Achievement”
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur criticises the Himachal Pradesh government’s three-year celebration in Mandi, calling it insensitive and wasteful. He alleges internal rifts, misuse of funds, and pressure on employees and students to attend.
Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched a strong attack on the state government today, alleging that its three-year celebration event in Mandi was used not to showcase achievements but to vent internal frustration. Speaking to the media, Thakur said the event—held in a district that had suffered the most during recent disasters—reflected the government’s “insensitivity” towards affected families.
He accused the Congress government of spending nearly ₹10 crore from the state exchequer merely to “abuse the Centre and the BJP” instead of announcing meaningful initiatives. “Instead of soothing the wounds of disaster victims, the government added salt to them,” he remarked. According to Thakur, the public watched Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri “glare at each other and openly express anger,” which left citizens, officials and employees stunned.
Thakur said that a programme the government had billed as a roadmap for the next two years turned into a forum solely for attacking the Centre. “I had said earlier that this government lacks vision. Today it became clear that their vision is completely blurred,” he added.
He questioned the heavy expenditure on the event, arguing that the money should have been used to support families hit by the disasters. He also said that the Deputy CM’s public reprimand of the Chief Minister exposed the ruling party’s internal discord.
Thakur pointed out the absence of several senior Congress leaders, including former PCC chief Pratibha Singh and PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, saying it highlighted the widening divide between Chief Minister Sukhu’s camp and supporters of the late former CM Virbhadra Singh.
He further alleged that the crowd at the rally did not gather willingly. “Government employees were pressured to attend. Schoolchildren and ITI students were forcibly brought to the venue,” he claimed, adding that despite all this, the rally “failed miserably.”
