White House says won’t pay for staffers’ Twitter Blue verification

Members of the White House will have to pay themselves to keep the blue verification checkmark on Twitter, the White House informed its staff on Friday via an email that won’t subscribe to Twitter Blue, the New York Post reported.
When Elon Musk took control of Twitter as CEO, a change was announced regarding the blue checkmark. According to the new policy, Twitter plans to shut down its long-running verified program, removing the blue checkmark from accounts that do not pay the US$8 monthly membership fee.
According to the New York Post, “It is our understanding that Twitter Blue does not provide person-level verification as a service,” White House director of digital strategy Rob Flaherty informed staff via email.
“Thus, a blue check mark will now only serve as a verification that the account is a paid user. Employees can purchase Twitter Blue on their personal social media accounts,” Flaherty wrote in the email.
According to media reports, news organizations including the New York Times, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times have informed staff members that they will not pay for Twitter Blue.
