Shimla, August 16:

On Independence Day, Shimla Police carried out a major operation, arresting three youths from Punjab suspected of drug trafficking. The arrests were made following a tip-off that three men were dealing heroin (“chitta”) from a rented accommodation in the Tutikandi (Tootu) area.

When police raided the location, no drugs were found. However, a pistol and 11 live cartridges were recovered from the premises.

The case falls under the jurisdiction of Baluganj Police Station. According to reports, on August 15, a special branch team was present at Tawi Mod when they received information that three youths were staying on the first floor of Babu Ram Bhavan in Tutu and allegedly running a drug racket.

Acting swiftly, the police team, in the presence of independent witnesses, raided the premises. Inside, they found three youths, later identified as Gurjeet Singh (27), son of Sardar Singh from Muktsar (Punjab); Pradeep Kumar alias Sukha (24); and Jagpal Singh (27), both residents of Abohar, Fazilka district (Punjab).

During a search of their room, police recovered an unlicensed pistol and 11 live cartridges. The weapon and ammunition were seized, and the suspects were taken into custody. Given the seriousness of the matter, a case has been registered under Section 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act at Baluganj Police Station.

Police are now investigating the source of the pistol and cartridges, their intended purpose, and the suspects’ possible links to drug networks and contacts in Himachal Pradesh.
