Shimla, July 9:
A major breakthrough has been achieved by Himachal Pradesh Police in the recent spate of bomb threats targeting courts across the state. Acting on inputs from the Cyber Cell, Kerala Police has arrested one suspect believed to be behind a series of threatening emails. Himachal Police is now in the process of securing the accused’s custody for interrogation.

Over the past few months, Himachal has received 8 to 10 email threats warning of bomb attacks, leading to panic and repeated disruptions—particularly in districts like Kullu and Shimla, where FIRs have already been registered. According to officials, these threats are being taken very seriously, and investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the state’s cyber wing.

Based on information provided by the State CID’s Cyber Team, Hugli Police in Kerala apprehended the suspect, who had already been under surveillance by authorities in Kerala and Karnataka. The individual is currently in Kerala Police custody under a production warrant, and Kullu Police is working to complete legal formalities to bring him to Himachal Pradesh for questioning.

Himachal DGP confirmed the arrest and emphasized that the state police remain fully alert and committed to ensuring public safety. He added that on July 9, multiple courts and one school received bomb threats via email.

The threatening emails named several locations, including courts in Shimla, Sirmaur, Nahan, Chamba, Kullu, and Kinnaur, as well as Sanawar School in Solan district. The emails claimed that RDX-based IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) had been planted at these sites.

Immediately after the emails were received, district police sprang into action. The affected court complexes and school were evacuated, and all judicial activities were suspended for the day as a precaution.

Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams were deployed under the supervision of senior police officers to thoroughly search the premises. While no explosives or suspicious materials were found, full-scale alertness was maintained throughout.

The DGP further stated that such threats are not being taken lightly, and the police are actively investigating the network behind these hoaxes at the national level. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
