Mandi, June 10:
A disturbing incident has come to light from the Jogindernagar subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, where a man brutally killed his 65-year-old father after an argument escalated between him and his wife.

According to police reports, the incident took place on Monday night in Drobri village under the Drubbal panchayat. Mukesh got into a heated argument with his wife, which soon turned violent. When his father, Pratap Singh, intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation, a furious Mukesh allegedly attacked him with a sharp object.

Pratap Singh, who had retired from the Jal Shakti Department, sustained serious injuries and was being rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to them on the way.

The family immediately informed the police. A team from Jogindernagar police station arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and sent it for post-mortem. Based on the statement of the deceased’s wife, Nagan Devi, a murder case was registered against Mukesh. Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Sakshi Verma, confirmed the incident and stated that the accused was arrested the same night.

This gruesome murder has once again raised serious concerns over the rising crime rate and law and order situation in the state. As per available data, 35 murder cases had already been registered in Himachal Pradesh by the end of April 2025. Although figures for May are yet to be released, the frequency of such incidents paints a worrying picture. So far, 24 attempted murder cases have also been reported in the state this year. Police say a thorough investigation is underway, and the accused is being interrogated.
