Shimla, June 10

As the BJP-led Modi government marks the completion of 11 years in power at the Centre, the Congress party has strongly criticized its tenure, labeling it detrimental to the country. While the BJP highlights its achievements, Congress has launched a sharp attack on the government’s foreign and economic policies.

Speaking in Shimla, Congress national spokesperson Kuldeep Rathore said that India’s foreign policy over the past 11 years has been a complete failure, damaging both the country’s global image and its internal economy.

Rathore also took aim at the government over inflation, unemployment, and the implementation of GST, accusing it of mishandling key economic issues. He further alleged attempts were being made to destabilize the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh.

He raised concerns about the import duty on apples, stating that while there were earlier assurances of increasing it from 50% to 100%, it has now been reduced to 30%. This, he said, could negatively impact apple growers and traders in Himachal Pradesh.

Referring to the global economic impact of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies, Rathore warned that their ripple effects could also be felt in states like Himachal. On matters related to Pakistan and terrorism, he criticized India’s foreign policy, suggesting that the U.S. appears to be bolstering Pakistan’s leadership.

Rathore questioned why the ceasefire announcement with Pakistan came from the U.S. President and not from India’s Prime Minister, emphasizing that such initiatives should originate from Indian leadership. He concluded that the current government’s foreign and economic strategies run counter to national interests and have caused significant harm to the country.
