Anti-Corruption Day Observed in Shimla on Engineer Vimal Negi’s Birth Anniversary
Electricity Board employees celebrating Anti-Corruption Day
Shimla, April 24 – In a solemn yet inspiring atmosphere at the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) headquarters, the Joint Action Committee of HPSEB employees, engineers, and pensioners observed Anti-Corruption Day to mark the birth anniversary of the late Engineer Vimal Negi. The event, held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, concluded with a unanimous resolution to commemorate this day annually as Anti-Corruption Day.
Joint Action Committee Convener Engineer Kamlesh Thakur, Co-Convener Hira Lal Verma, and Engineer Sunil Grover, Patron of the All India Power Engineers Federation, delivered powerful messages against corruption. They emphasized that the circumstances leading to Vimal Negi’s tragic act of self-immolation were rooted in systemic corruption within the department, which subjected him to immense psychological pressure.
Engineer Sunil Grover demanded immediate dismissal of officials named in FIRs under Article 311 of the Indian Constitution, along with the initiation of criminal proceedings. He remarked that corruption not only hampers efficiency in the workplace but also severely undermines employee morale, personal dignity, and public trust.
The event concluded with a collective pledge from employees, engineers, and pensioners from the Electricity Board, Power Corporation, and Communication Corporation, committing themselves to uphold transparency and integrity at their respective workplaces and to speak out against corruption.
Additionally, a High-Powered Committee, chaired by Engineer Sunil Grover, was announced to monitor corruption in the state’s power sector. All employees were encouraged to actively support the committee by reporting any instances of malpractice.
