Shimla, April 21 – The growing grip of drug abuse in Himachal Pradesh continues to claim young lives. In the latest incident, the body of a 31-year-old man was found under mysterious circumstances inside a parked car in the Kotkhai area of Shimla district. Preliminary investigations point to a suspected drug overdose as the cause of death.
According to police sources, Kotkhai police station received a call on Monday reporting an unconscious man lying inside a car near Ram Ki Karali. SHO Kotkhai, along with a team, rushed to the scene. The location, a forested area around one kilometre from Bhalidhar towards Badyav Valley, was where a blue Swift car was found parked. Inside, on the driver’s seat, a young man was discovered dead.
The deceased was identified as Vashisht Ghalta, a 31-year-old resident of Kotkhai. All the windows of the car were closed from the inside, though the doors were unlocked. The vehicle was opened in the presence of locals and family members, after which police carried out an initial inspection.
DSP Theog Siddhartha Sharma also arrived at the scene and supervised the investigation. According to police, froth and traces of dried blood were observed around the victim’s nose, though there were no visible external injuries. The body was sent to CHC Kotkhai for post-mortem, where medical staff conducted a detailed examination.
During the post-mortem, injection marks were found on the victim’s arm, strengthening the suspicion of a drug overdose. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the autopsy report is released.
