Dharamshala, April 17: In a significant push to boost local economies and rural livelihoods, Tourism Corporation Chairman RS Bali, who holds Cabinet rank, announced that small tourist spots will be developed in villages located near major roads. Addressing public grievances in Nagarota and Kangra, Bali emphasized that tourism is the backbone of Himachal Pradesh’s economy, and the government is committed to giving it a new direction with innovative initiatives.

New Tourism Facilities & Multi-Phase Development Plans

RS Bali highlighted the government’s recent introduction of attractions such as Shikara rides, houseboats, and jet-skiing in major reservoirs like Govind Sagar Lake, with similar facilities planned for Pong Dam. He stated that a two-phase plan worth ₹2,400 crore has been drafted for the development of new tourist destinations across the state.

Major Infrastructure Projects Underway

To enhance air connectivity and tourism access, Bali informed that the expansion of Kangra Airport is in full swing, with ₹355 crore already distributed to landowners for acquisition. Additionally, 16 heliports are under construction to improve travel to remote areas.

He also pointed out that policy reforms in excise, tourism, power, and mining have led to over ₹2,000 crore in additional revenue, which will support development works across all regions of the state.

Focus on Equitable Growth & Public Participation

Bali reiterated the state government’s commitment to uplifting the weaker sections of society, ensuring that Himachal’s natural and economic wealth benefits all, not just a privileged few. He praised Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s campaign urging affluent citizens to voluntarily give up electricity subsidies, noting that public response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Strengthening Rural Connectivity and Development

The Tourism Corporation Chairman also stressed that road connectivity in rural areas is a top priority for the government. Strengthening local road networks will not only boost tourism but also ensure better access and opportunities for residents.

“All these steps are part of our broader vision to enhance infrastructure, stimulate economic growth, and improve quality of life across Himachal Pradesh,” RS Bali concluded.
