Himachal Pradesh to Experience Deteriorating Weather, Yellow Alert in 5 Districts for Rain, Snowfall
Shimla, March 09, 2025:
Weather remained clear on Saturday in Himachal Pradesh as bright sunshine engulfed popular hill stations including Shimla, Manali and import Dharamshala. But next week will be very different as a western disturbance approaches the most part of the state, bringing rain and snow to various parts of the state.
The weather will worsen from March 10 till March 14, with rains and snowfall in high altitudes intermittently as per the forecast of Meteorological Department. There are chances of light rain/snow in the higher mountain areas on March 9. However, the weather will be harsher from March 10, where conditions in rain, snow, thunderstorms and lightning have been predicted.
“The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in five districts — Chamba, Kangra and Lahaul Spiti for heavy rain and snowfall while in Kullu and Mandi it has been issued for thunderstorms and lightning as a precautionary measure.” The yellow alert cautions residents and travellers to be on guard, as these meteorological conditions may cause difficulty in carrying out normal life, particularly in hilly areas.
The weather is expected to deteriorate further and rains and snowfall are expected in most parts between March 12 and 14. Tourists planning to visit the high-altitude areas are advised to take additional precautions as the situation can become dangerous due to the accumulation of snow and slippery roads, the Meteorological Department said. The travelers are encouraged to check weather forecasts before they go.
Over the past 24 hours, the weather across the state basically has been normal. Through most areas, temperatures were close to the seasonal average, with a few exceptions. So, while some regions cooled 2 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal, others warmed slightly above normal.
The lowest temperature,–6.9°C, was recorded at Keylong and Kukumseri in the state, while the highest temperature, at 28.2°C, was recorded at Una, the IMD said, adding that only 1 mm of rain was reported in Manali and no other areas recorded any significant rainfall or snowfall. There were no reports of fog, storms or gusty winds throughout the state.
Recent weather conditions have been developing across the region and as the weather patterns change with a western disturbance on the way, residents and travelers alike are urged to stay tuned to the developments of the week with special attention to safety and caution.
