Shimla, February 12: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said here today that 72 MW solar energy will be produced from seven projects in Himachal Pradesh by December 2025. He said that Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited has started the construction work of two projects in Una district, out of which a project of 12 MW capacity is located in Gondpur Bulla and a project of 11 MW capacity is located in Lamlehri Upperli.

He said that three projects are under construction in Solan district, these include 13 MW projects in Saned of Nalagarh, eight MW in Bara Barot and 13 MW in Dabhota Majra. He said that tender will be issued soon for the nine MW Dabhota-One project and its construction work will be started soon. Apart from this, the tender process has also been started for a 6 MW solar project in Tihra Khas of Una district and it is likely to be approved this month.

Emphasizing the commitment of the state government to promote solar power generation in the state, he said that at present surveys are being conducted for eight additional projects of combined capacity of 325 MW. He said that the construction work of these solar power projects would be started after the completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the present government is striving to establish Himachal as the first green energy state of the country by the year 2026, giving preference to environmental protection and sustainable development.

The state government is working towards environmental protection as well as reducing carbon emissions by ensuring the use of green energy. He said that renewable energy is an inexhaustible energy source. By using it, the availability of energy for future generations is being ensured. This innovative initiative of the state government is playing an important role in reducing the adverse effects of climate change.

The Chief Minister said that a 32 MW solar power project at Pekhubela in Una district was dedicated to the public on April 15, 2024. 48 million units of electricity have been generated from this project, earning a revenue of Rs 14 crore till January 31, 2025. Apart from this, the construction work of a five MW solar power project at Bhanjal in Una district has started from November 30, 2024 and the construction of a 10 MW solar power project at Aghlaur is likely to be completed this month. The state government is also working by preparing an action plan keeping the production of green hydrogen energy at the center.

Construction work of a one MW capacity green hydrogen project has been started at Nalagarh in Solan district in collaboration with Oil India Limited, for which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed.
