Himachal Receives 26 New Watershed Development Projects Worth 151 Crores from the Center, Says Dr. Chandrashekhar Pemmasani in Response to Dr. Sikander Kumar
Shimla, 08 February: The Central Government has gifted new watershed development projects worth crores to Himachal Pradesh. In response to the question of Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sikander Kumar, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Rural Development Dr. Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani told the Parliament that the Central Government has approved 26 new projects under the Watershed Development Component 2.0 under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) in Himachal Pradesh.
The Minister said that these projects will cover a total area of ​​​​0.54 lakh hectares, whose total cost has been fixed at Rs 151.20 crore. In this, the contribution of the Central Government will be Rs 136.08 crore. Under the scheme, so far an amount of Rs 55.77 crore has been released to Himachal Pradesh by the Central Government.
Union Minister of State Dr. Pemmasani said that the main objective of this scheme is to ensure conservation, creation and sustainable use of resources. Under this, efforts are being made to overcome the problem of land degradation and improve productivity.
He informed that from the year 2022-23 to 2024-25 (till the third quarter), 367 water harvesting structures have been constructed or revived under this scheme in Himachal Pradesh. Apart from this, 1421 hectares of additional area has been brought under protective irrigation, benefiting 16,547 farmers.
The minister informed that along with water conservation, 1710 hectares of land has been brought under soil and moisture conservation through this scheme. Apart from this, 2025 hectares of degraded and rain-fed area has been developed, which will make sustainable use of water resources possible.
He said that another important aspect of this scheme is also employment generation. So far, 1.46 lakh man days / labor days have been created under this project, which has provided employment opportunities to the local people.
Dr. Sikander Kumar, while emphasizing on the effective implementation of this scheme in Himachal Pradesh, said that this would conserve water resources in the state and benefit the farmers.
