Shimla, 03 February: The demand for installing escalators and lifts for the convenience of elderly, differently abled and physically disabled devotees at famous Shaktipeeths and other pilgrimage sites of Himachal Pradesh was raised in Rajya Sabha.

Himachal Pradesh MP Dr. Sikander Kumar raised this issue prominently during Zero Hour on Monday and urged the Central Government to increase basic facilities at the pilgrimage sites of the state.

Elderly and differently abled devotees face a lot of trouble

Dr. Sikander Kumar said in the House that Himachal Pradesh is known as “Devbhoomi” and lakhs of devotees from all over the country come to visit famous temples like Maa Jwalaji, Maa Chamunda Devi, Maa Naina Devi, Maa Baglamukhi, Maa Chintapurni Shaktipeeth and Baba Balaknath.

He said that Himachal Pradesh is a hilly state, where most of the temples are located at high altitudes. To reach these temples, devotees have to climb hundreds of stairs, due to which the elderly, Divyang and physically disabled people have to face extreme difficulty.

Dr. Sikander Kumar said that especially elderly and Divyang devotees also reach these religious places in large numbers, but due to lack of adequate facilities, they face difficulty in visiting. Due to heavy crowds at pilgrimage sites, devotees also face additional difficulties.

MP Dr. Sikander Kumar urged the central government to make arrangements for escalators and lifts for the convenience of devotees at these pilgrimage sites. He said that it should be ensured that all devotees, especially elderly and Divyang persons, can visit religious places without any trouble.

He said that similar facilities should be made available in the Shaktipeeths of Himachal Pradesh as well, so that devotees, especially elderly, Divyang and physically disabled devotees, do not have to face any kind of difficulty.
