He said that if it takes more than thirty days to register births and deaths outside health institutions, then it becomes a case of delayed registration and for this, the applicants are brought into the process only after submitting the necessary documents in the office of the District Registrar of Births and Deaths as well as the office of the Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Ajay Pathak (Chief Medical Officer) told Diary Times, “It is mandatory to register birth and death within 21 days. There is a grace period of 21 to 30 days, during which the local registrar, who is a panchayat secretary, can do it by charging a late fee. If the incident takes place in a hospital, then he is the SMO incharge of the hospital. But if you do not register your birth and death within 21 to 30 days, then it becomes a delayed registration, for which you have to take permission from the district registrar and complete all the formalities.”
