Shimla, 28 December: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has taken a firm stance on the posting of IPS officer Ilma Afroz, issuing a notice to the Home Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP). This move follows the hearing of a petition filed by Suchha Singh, who has raised concerns over her current posting at the Police Headquarters instead of Baddi. The court has directed the authorities to provide clarification on the matter and scheduled the next hearing for 4 January.

Ilma Afroz, who has been assigned to the Police Headquarters since 16 December, is facing growing demands from the residents of Baddi, Barotiwala, and Nalagarh (BBN) areas for her return. Petitioner Suchha Singh argues that her presence in Baddi is crucial for strengthening law and order in the region, particularly in addressing the growing influence of the drug and mining mafias.

The division bench, consisting of Justice Vivek Singh Thakur and Justice Rakesh Kainthla, issued a notice to the Home Secretary and DGP following the preliminary hearing. The petitioner’s lawyer emphasized that during her previous tenure in the BBN area in 2024, Ilma Afroz had successfully maintained peace and order by enforcing the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

The court’s next decision will be determined during the upcoming hearing, where further developments regarding the officer’s posting and the petitioner’s claims will be discussed.
