Accused Caught Red-Handed in Chamba District

Chamba, December 27: In a significant move to combat corruption, the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SVACB) arrested Vikrant Gill, the in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Handicraft and Handloom Corporation Ltd. (HPHHCL), for accepting a bribe of ₹18,000. The arrest took place in Chamba district on Friday, following a carefully planned operation.

The accused had demanded the bribe from Ankit Verma, a resident of Hatnala, Chamba, in exchange for releasing his pending remuneration. Verma reported the incident to the Vigilance Bureau, prompting swift action to apprehend the official.

Trap Laid and Arrest Made

Acting on Verma’s complaint, the SVACB team devised a strategy to catch the accused red-handed. During the operation, Gill was caught accepting the bribe amount, leading to his immediate arrest.

An FIR has been lodged under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amendment Act 2018), at the SVACB Police Station in Chamba. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details related to the case.
