Shimla, 09 December: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Shimla Police arrested two women with 14.09 grams of chitta during a routine blockade at Kharapathar in the Jubbal area of Shimla district. The arrest highlights the police’s growing vigilance against the rising menace of narcotics in the region.

Police Intercept Vehicle with Illegal Substance

According to reports, a Haryana-registered vehicle (HR 59F 0853) was traveling from Shimla to Rohru when it was stopped by the police for a routine inspection. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered the illegal substance hidden inside. The two women in the vehicle, identified as Neelam (30), a resident of Old Jubbal, and Maninder Kaur (38), from Yamunanagar, Haryana, were immediately arrested for possession of the drugs.

Legal Action Under NDPS Act

A case has been filed against both women under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities have initiated a full investigation to uncover the source of the drugs and to determine the intended recipients of the contraband.

The police are actively pursuing leads to dismantle the drug networks operating in the region. Investigators are working to piece together the full scope of the operation, including how the drugs were transported into the area and to whom they were intended to be delivered.

Police Commitment to Tackling Drug Menace

SP Shimla, Sanjeev Gandhi, confirmed the arrest and emphasized the police’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in the district. “We are fully dedicated to curbing the drug menace and will leave no stone unturned in our investigations. We are also strengthening our efforts to intercept such consignments before they reach the local population,” Gandhi stated.

The arrest comes as part of the continued efforts by the Shimla Police to tackle growing concerns about drug abuse and trafficking in Himachal Pradesh. In recent years, the state has faced rising incidents of drug-related offenses, and authorities have ramped up their surveillance and enforcement actions.

Community Support Vital in the Fight Against Drugs

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community involvement in tackling drug abuse. Local residents have been urged to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities to assist in the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics in the region.

As the investigation continues, authorities remain committed to cracking down on drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the people in Himachal Pradesh.
