Abhishek Awasthi Elected Deputy Mayor of Greater Bendigo After Winning Councillor Election in Victoria, Australia
Mandi, November 20: After winning the councillor election in Greater Bendigo, a metropolitan city in the state of Victoria, Australia, Abhishek Awasthi has now been elected as the Deputy Mayor there.
This election was held on the basis of the voting done by all the councillors elected there on November 19. Abhishek Awasthi had applied for the post of Deputy Mayor after winning the councillor election. Other participants were also in the fray with him.
Under the rules of Australia, those applying for posts like Mayor and Deputy Mayor have to put their vision before all the councillors and on the basis of that the councillors vote. The elected councillors there liked Abhishek Awasthi’s vision and on that basis he has been elected as the next Deputy Mayor of Greater Bendigo. Andrea Metcalf has been elected as the Mayor along with him. Abhishek Awasthi has thanked everyone for electing him as the Deputy Mayor.

He told that his swearing-in ceremony will be held on 26 November 2024, after which he will formally take over his charge. His tenure will be of one year. Under the rules of Australia, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected for one year only, while the tenure of representatives elected as councilors is 4 years. Every year the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are re-elected on the basis of their performance.
