Shimla: Thousands of people visited Dev Junga in Thund on Devthan festival
Shimla, November 15: Thousands of people visited Dev Junga and received his blessings on the festival of Devotthan, which is called Devthan in the local language, in Thund, the place of 22 deities. This year, after a long gap, Kariyala was organized in the Jagran of Devat Junga, in which famous folk singer Kishan Verma and other artists entertained by presenting a Pahari Nati throughout the night. On this occasion, a Bhandara was also organized in which thousands of devotees took prasad.
Giving information about Devotthan festival, the temple priest Nandlal Sharma said that Thund is considered to be the place of 22 deities since the princely era, where devotees from different areas come every year to receive the blessings of Dev Junga on the occasion of Devshayani and Devotthan. The recognition of Dev Junga Devchand is found in areas like Spathu of Solan district, Shargaon of Sirmaur, Neineti, Junga of Shimla, Shodhi, New Shaloth, Piran-Tri, Balog etc. and people consider Dev Junga as their family member.
He told that on the occasion of Devthan and Dasuni, 22 deities including Devchand of the entire region, Kunthali Devta of Panjal, Manuni Devta of Dhar, Junga Devta of Bhanog gather where people offer gifts to the deity after the fulfillment of their wish. He told that in the Kalana of Dev Junga Devchand, people of 22 gotras i.e. Khail including Kanogu, Rohal, Shalonthi, Bhunthi, Takral, Chhibbar, Balir, Saraji come and follow the tradition. On the night of Devthan, people perform Jagran of 22 deities in the courtyard of Dom Devta and the next day they receive blessings from the divine voice of the deity.
Manohar Singh Thakur, the caretaker of Junga Devta, told that the history of Junga Devta is connected to the royal family of Keonthal state. He said that the recognition of Junga Devta is found in the entire then Keonthal state. People of this region invite the deity to their homes when a son is born in the family and other auspicious events take place.
