Chief Minister launches Himachal’s first OTT platform

Shimla, August 09: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday launched HV Cinema, the first OTT platform produced by the state’s production house Himalayan Velocity, Shimla.

HV Cinema will showcase feature films, short films, documentaries and animations on its OTT platform. There is a dedicated section for Himachali cinema on this OTT. Himalayan Velocity Managing Director Pushp Raj Thakur said that Himachal Pradesh with its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage has always been an important place for films. However, the cinematic expressions of the region have often lagged behind mainstream Bollywood and other regional cinemas. Himalayan Velocity aims to change this scenario by giving Himachali filmmakers a dedicated platform to share their stories with the world.

This initiative is not just about entertainment; it is about preserving and promoting the unique cultural identity of Himachal Pradesh. HV Cinema OTT platform will have a diverse range of Himachali films, ranging from traditional folk tales to contemporary narratives. It is a global platform. By curating a selection of world cinema, it aims to introduce viewers to diverse cultures, perspectives, and films from around the world.

This mix of local and global films will create a rich, immersive viewing experience that will expose viewers to regional, national, and world cinema. World cinema has always been a treasure trove of unique stories and innovative filmmaking styles. By including these in its repertoire, cross-cultural exchange will undoubtedly inspire local filmmakers to experiment with new ideas and techniques, enriching the overall cinematic landscape.

Himalayan Velocity is a Himachal-based production house and has produced award-winning films on Himachal issues that have been appreciated at various national and international forums. Apart from this, Himalayan Velocity is organizing the International Film Festival of Shimla and has successfully organized nine editions. The 10th edition of the International Film Festival will be celebrated from 16 to 18 August 2024 at Gaiety Theatre Shimla

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the company for launching this platform and said that through this platform Himachali artists will be able to showcase their talent. The Chief Minister wished the production house all the best for future projects. Managing Director of the company Pushpraj Thakur was also present on the occasion.
